About
I’m Andrew Clark, a developer in the North East of England. I’ve been programming for about twenty years. I live in Great Ayton, under Roseberry Topping, and work in and around Middlesbrough.
I run North Yield, which sources investment property in the North East. Most of my recent engineering is in service of it: a dataset built from the government’s Energy Performance Certificate register that covers every home on it in the Tees Valley, the analysis and maps North Yield publishes from it, and a screening tool that pulls public records together so we can see which properties are worth viewing and taking through full due diligence. Some of it is on the work page.
I also build things to find out how they work. ActionPoints was my first foray into building on a language model, and the main lesson was that the guarantees worth having are the ones you enforce in code, not the ones you ask the model for.
What I write about
- Development: how things were built, and the decisions behind them.
- Data: public datasets, what they actually say, and how to publish from them responsibly.
- Security: plain-English write-ups when something breaks that people need to act on.
- Property: the occasional note from the North Yield side.
Code is on GitHub, and I post about what I’m working on on LinkedIn.
